Just think back to those times when families were sacrificed, when children lost their fathers, when wives were brutally widowed, when people couldn’t hold their heads high, when people were made to work as slaves for the British, and when Indians were treated like untouchables. Those were the days when mothers sacrificed their sons.
India, despite having a large population and a democracy, had been so vibrant and united within itself that India had spaced itself out in such a way that the entire universe looks back at India as a place where unity exists along with such diversity. India is renowned for being a melting pot of cultures and traditions, and its citizens share a calmness that upholds humanity.
On the eve of the 77th Independence Day, I send my warmest greetings to all Indians who reside in India and abroad. I’m honoured to speak to you on this historic occasion.
