Among the variety of languages that are spoken in India, Hindi stands to be the most used and spoken language. Hindi is not only limited to India; it has a wide scope outside India in countries like Fiji, New Zealand, Singapore, and Mauritius. Over 420 million people around the world speak Hindi as their first language, and over 120 million people speak Hindi as their second language.
The Hindi language is written in Devnagiri script as one of the official languages of India. To make it the official language, various people lobbied in favour of Hindi, such as Beohar Rajendra Simha, Hazari Prasad Diwedi, Kaka Kalelkar, and many more. This day also marks the birth anniversary of Beohar Rjendra Simha, who was an Indian scholar, and on his 50th birthday, Hindi was adopted as an official language.

Today is September 14, and every year we Indians celebrate this day as Hindi Diwas. On this day, September 14, 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India declared Hindi the official language. Since the declaration of Hindi as the official language of India, on the request of the Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti, every year on September 14 is celebrated as Hindi Diwas all over India.
The Indian people had to fight for a very long period for the Hindi language to be recognized as the official language of India. Rajendra Singh worked hard to have Hindi recognized as an official language, and other writers including Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Maithilisharan Gupta, Kaka Kalelkar, and Seth Govinddas also contributed to this. Beohar Rjendra Simha was an Indian scholar who was born on this day, and it was on his 50th birthday that Hindi became an official language.
Mahatma Gandhi also requested that Hindi become the national language in the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan in 1918. Hindi was referred to as the language of the people by Mahatma Gandhi, and it took many years and the constant work of everyone for Hindi to become the official language of India. This is vital to preserve and advance the Hindi language and to prevent its extinction.
Any nation may be recognized by its mother tongue. Our official language is Hindi, hence we should constantly speak it as much as we can. As Hindi speakers, we should be proud of our language. On this day, let’s all promise to do everything in our power to advance Hindi as our official language and to utilize it as much as we can.
