Without clean and healthy water, our planet will be one of the billions of lifeless rocks floating endlessly in the vastness of the universe.
For this purpose, NCC, which is open to students from schools and colleges on a voluntary basis as a Tri-Services Organization, which comprises the Army, the Navy, and the Air Wing, started India’s largest uniformed youth organization and initiated the ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’ campaign on December 1, 2021, to clean seashores of plastic and waste materials. Around 74,000 NCC cadets from 10 states and four union territories participated in the campaign, which aimed to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness.
NCC has also signed a memorandum of understanding (mou) with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to reuse plastic waste collected during the campaign for road construction. The Defence Ministry reported that 3.4 lakh NCC units collected approximately six tons of plastic waste. NCC is also collaborating with IITs and other premier institutes to recycle and utilize the collected plastic waste. The initiative also aims to educate locals and raise awareness about Swachh Bharat, a sustainable approach to environmental protection.
To achieve their goal, the NCC cadets have also interacted with the general public, shopkeepers, fishermen, and local people along the seashores to create awareness about the negative effects of polluting the seashores on the ecosystem.
The NCC’s flagship initiative is to promote awareness among people who live near the shoreline, to clean the seashore and other bodies of water such as rivers and lakes, and to educate and sensitize residents about Swachh Bharat, all of which would benefit the environment.

The Puneet Sagar Abhiyan is not only limited to cleanness campaign but it has board perspectives, it will also educate people and raise awareness among the people leaving close to seashores and river side to clean the Seashores and beaches off the plastic & other wastes materials.
