2 Minute Speech on Mahatma Gandhi in English

Ladies and gentlemen, our esteemed guest, and all my dear friends present here. A warm welcome to all of you. Today we are all here to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, and I am standing before you all to give a speech on a prominent and world-famous leader, Mahatma Gandhi.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1898, in Porbandar, Gujarat. He was a lawyer, anti-colonial patriot, and political ethicist who was instrumental in India’s independence. His father, Karamchand Gandhi, was a minister in Porbandar, and Gandhi Ji was the son of his father’s fourth wife, Putlibai, who belonged to the Vaishnava family. From an early age, he was taught nonviolence and self-discipline qualities by his mother, Putlibai. On September 6, 1906, Gandhi Ji started his first satyagraha in South Africa to campaign against injustice and class discrimination after being thrown out of a train despite having a first-class ticket.

On February 4, 1916, Gandhi ji made his first address in India at Banaras Hindu University and initiated India’s freedom movement in 1917 to address the poor conditions of Indian farmers and the Tinkathiya system that was leading in Bihar. He also initiated the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1919, which boycotted British goods and institutions. In 1930, Gandhi led the civil disobedience movement, breaking the salt law in Denmark. In 1942, he also initiated the Quit India movement, which was declared the most serious rebellion after the 1857 revolt.

In 1947, India gained its independence, but it split into India and Pakistan. Gandhi Ji was tragically shot dead in 1948 by Nathuram Godse, who accused him of deceiving Hindus.  The Life of Gandhi ji is an open book that teaches us various aspects of living a life through non-violence, discipline, and honesty.

3 Minute Speech on Mahatma Gandhi in English

Good morning to everyone present here. Today we are here to celebrate Gandhi jayanti which marks the birth anniversary of our beloved Mahatma Gandhi who sacrificed his all life for the independence of India. He was a promoter of Non- violence who believed that we can win any war with consistency and Non- violence.

Mahatma Gandhi was a lawyer, anti-colonial patriot, and political ethicist who played a crucial role in India’s independence. His father, Karamchand Gandhi, was a minister in Porbandar, and Gandhi ji was the son of his father’s fourth wife, Putlibai, who belonged to the Vaishnava family. His mother, Putlibai, instilled in him the values of nonviolence and self-discipline from a young age.

He was born on October 2, 1898, in Porbandar, Gujarat, and was married to Kasturba Gandhi at the age of 13, who was one year older than Gandhi Ji. Gandhi ji gave his first address in India on February 4, 1916, at Banaras Hindu University. He eventually stayed in South Africa for 21 years to fight against injustice and social divisions among Indians.

In 1917, Gandhi ji launched his liberation struggle in India, addressing the deplorable conditions of Indian farmers as a result of the Tinkathiya system. He urged for a broader anti-Rowlatt Act and anti-Jalian Wala Bagh massacre movement, which resulted in the non-cooperation movement. The movement, however, failed with the Chauri Chaura incident, in which 23 police officers were attacked and killed by an aggressive Indian crowd.

Gandhi ji again started the civil disobedience campaign in 1930 by breaching the salt law in Dandi. In 1942, he launched the Quit India campaign, which was called the most dangerous uprising since the revolt of 1857, and lately, by the continuous efforts of several leaders, including Gandhi ji, India got independence in 1947, but it was divided into India and Pakistan, and as Nathuram Godse accused Gandhi ji of misleading Hindus by failing to take any action on partition, he assassinated Gandhi on January 30, 1948.

We celebrate Gandhi Jayanti to remember his contribution to the freedom struggle movement and how he has dedicated the whole of his life to making India an independent nation. His life is a living textbook that teaches the ideal way to live with nonviolence, discipline, and honesty. He lived and died for his country.

5 Minute Speech on Mahatma Gandhi in English

Greetings to everyone present here. Today I am here on the stage to speak about a person who was a lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist, and political ethicist who has contributed his whole life to making India an independent country. He was none other than Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as Mahatma Gandhi, who was a promoter of non-violence. Who stated that “An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind?” Which means that if we keep punishing those who are accused and cruel, then we are also termed bad people, as not any type of violence can be solved by becoming violent.

Gandhi Ji was born on October 2nd in Porbandar, Gujarat, which is celebrated nation-wide as Gandhi Jayanti. His father, Karamchanmd Gandhi, was a minister in Porbandar, and his mother’s name was Putlibai. He was a man of great values because, from his birth, he was taught the importance of non-violence, self-discipline, and several virtues of life by his mother.

The first speech of Mahatma Gandhi in India was at Banaras Hindu University on February 4, 1916. Before that, he was in South Africa, where he had gone to represent an Indian merchant in a case, but there he stayed for 21 years to fight against the injustice and class division of Indians and Blacks in South Africa. The incident of a train in which he was thrown out of the train irrespective of having the 1st class ticket led him to become a leader and to end the discrimination. The day was marked as a day on which Gandhi ji decided to change society for the betterment of the people.

In India, Gandhi ji started his freedom movement from Champaran Satyagrah in 1917, when the condition of Indian farmers was worst due to the Tinkathiya system, in which farmers were forced to produce only Indigo. After this, in 1919, he called for a wider movement as a passive resistance against the Rowlatt Act and the Jalian Wala Bagh massacre, in which nearly 379 people were killed.

Due to these horrifying experiences, Gandhi ji started the Non-Cooperation Movement, in which people started to boycott British goods and their offices, schools, and colleges, but the movement did not succeed and failed after the Chauri Chaura incident, in which 23 police officers were killed by Indians as the protesting crowd got violent.

For the freedom struggle of Indians, Gandhi ji again started a movement in 1930 known as the civil disobedience movement. In this, Gandhi ji left Sabarmati ashram with 78 other members and they reached Dandi on foot to break the salt law as the government had taken control to manufacture the salt.

Again, in 1942, Gandhi ji started the Quit India movement, also known as Bharat Choro Andolan, which was a call to action or die. Viceroy Linlithgow describes the movement as the most serious rebellion after the revolt of 1857 by the Sepoys.

After many attempts by Gandhi ji and many other leaders, India finally got its independence in 1947, but it split into two countries namely, India and Pakistan. On January 30, 1948, a tragic incident happened: Gandhi ji was shot dead by Nathuram Godse, who accused Gandhi ji of deceiving Hindus by allowing and not taking any steps toward the partition of India and Pakistan.

The life of Mahatma Gandhi was an open book, as anyone can read and learn the ideal approach to life through non-violence, discipline, and honesty. Gandhi ji lived for the country and died for it.
